Manager of Marketing and Digital Content

Exempt, Regular, 100%-Time, Pay Grade 3.1


University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks a Manager of Marketing and Digital Content who will report to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Content. This role will be responsible for writing copy for paid and owned prospective student-facing channels. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of writing copy to drive interest, engagement, and lead generation. The Manager of Marketing and Digital Content is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of online and offline lead-gen writing best practices and higher education best practices. Occasional travel between local UMUC locations may be required.
 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
● Help manage writing team by checking other team members' work (including
that of senior team members) as needed in times of heavy workflow and/or
in the absence of the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Content
● Work directly with external stakeholders to fully understand objectives, offer
insights, recommendations, and potential solutions and build consensus from
various stakeholders (DUX, Editorial, Design, Academics, and others) to
achieve optimal clarity for prospective students
● Develop and maintain resource documents and templates for the team's use
● Work directly with the Digital User Experience (DUX) team to improve the
presentation of content on umuc.edu and within digital tools and streamline
web production updates, including making recommendations related to
organization and architecture
● Ensure content aligns with brand messaging, research, and insights, is
consistent in style, quality, and tone of voice; is complete and accurate; and
is optimized for search engines
● Write and edit content across multiple channels to drive enrollment, including
paid online/offline advertising, website and digital tools, e-mail marketing,
and print collateral
● Make process recommendations to the Assistant Director of Marketing and
Digital Content to improve workflow and accuracy
● Provide feedback to other team members and help mentor junior staff
members
 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field from an
accredited institute of higher learning
● Seven (7) to ten (10) years of content development experience
● Proven editorial skills and mastery of the English language
● Demonstrated ability to generate leads through compelling copy
● A passion for writing and desire to continue learning and adapting in a
constantly changing digital communications environment
● Excellent presentation, communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills
● Ability to execute and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight
deadlines
● Ability to remain positive amid constructive criticism and feedback
● A healthy dose of common sense
● Working knowledge of HTML
 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
● Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
● Experience managing content for a marketing firm or institution of higher
education
